New Carbon Monoxide Requirements

Local Law 181 of 2018 adds additional requirements to certain buildings in regards to carbon monoxide (CO2) detectors.

The following occupancies must comply:

  • A-1
  • A-2
  • A-3
  • Group B
  • Group M

If your building falls under the above occupancies and has a fire alarm system, the carbon monoxide alarms must have the following features or abilities:

  • Built-in sounder bases
  • Transmits a signal to a central supervising station
  • Can initiate an audible and visual supervisory alarm at a constantly attended location

These detectors are not needed in kitchens.

If you have tenants, here are the CO2 detection rules you must follow.
