How to File an Electrical Application

In order to commence electrical work, an application must be submitted to and approved by the DOB. Generally, applications are not submitted via paper. Information must be entered online on DOB Now: Build.

In order to ensure good quality of work, the Electrical Division must perform an inspection once the job is completed. The electrician will receive a Certificate of Electrical Inspection in the mail.

Electrical Advisory Board

Applications that must be approved by the Advisory Board are not submitted on DOB Now.

The Board meets at 8:30am am on these dates: Jan. 17, Feb. 21, March 21, April 18, May 16, June 20, July 18, Aug. 15, Sept. 19, Oct. 17, Nov. 14, Dec. 19. Here is a sample of a meeting summary.

Applications to the board must be submitted eight business days in advance of a meeting date. Items on hold should be submitted 15 business days in advance.
